Operations Positions:
Please note that we prioritize full-time applicants significantly over part-time applicants. We strongly encourage candidates to apply for full-time roles to increase their likelihood of selection.
Events Coordinator
Time: 40h / week or 24h+ / week (in office)
Main responsibilities: Organizing and hosting events that represent Epoch to the public.
Key activites: Epoch hosts various events throughout the year, including hackathons with 500+ participants, presentations, talks, and company visits. You will oversee the event organization, maintain communication with venues and other stakeholders, and have the creative freedom to plan events that add value to Epoch.
Preferred background: Extensive experience is not required. However, a structured and organized approach to work is essential. Some experience in event or project management is a plus.
Columnist
Time: 16h+ / week (in office)
Main responsibilities: Crafting long-form content that communicates Epoch’s values and perspectives to the world. You will also support the research team by providing insights and contributing to their tasks.
Key activites: Writing opinion pieces and research articles relevant to competitions or Epoch’s mission. Topics may include AI safety, data usage, or environmental challenges. In collaboration with the PR coordinator, you will aim to publish these pieces in reputable national newspapers, platforms, or magazines.
Preferred background: Experience writing opinion or analytical pieces, preferably with a technical or AI-focused perspective.
Public Relations Coordinator
Time: 40h / week or 24h+ / week (in office)
Main responsibilities: Managing external communication through Epoch’s social media platforms and serving as the primary point of contact for press and other stakeholders interested in Epoch’s story.
Key activites: Developing strategies to attract a larger audience to Epoch. Engaging with the press through radio interviews or print media features. You will receive media training throughout the year to sharpen your storytelling skills.
Preferred background: Strong communication skills are essential, enabling you to handle challenging conversations strategically. A clear understanding of what makes a compelling social media presence is crucial, with the ability to apply this effectively to Epoch. Proficiency in writing (Dutch and English) is preferred.
Creative Engineer
Time: 40h / week or 24h+ / week (in office)
Main responsibilities: Your mission is to make our work accessible and engaging for a wide audience. You will be responsible for explaining Epoch’s mission, competitions, and projects through various ways of storytelling.
Key activites: Develop engaging content that explains what Epoch stands for, its values, and the projects we do. This can be done through a variety of formats, including blog posts, videos, workshops, physical objects or other ways that you think are suitable. You will have the freedom to experiment with different mediums and find the most effective ways to share our message and what's being made with a broad audience.
Preferred background: Experience in explaining and presenting projects through various formats. You should be able to write clearly and engagingly, think creatively about how to present our work, and know how to tailor content to different audiences. A strong understanding of Epoch’s mission and how to promote it is essential. Skills like drawing, video production, and 3D software are helpful but not required, as they can be learned on the job. You should be able to work independently, take initiative, and propose new ideas.

Engineering Positions:

AI Engineer - Full Time
Time: 40h / week (all in office)
Main responsibilities: Collaborating within Epoch’s competition team to develop the best possible machine learning models and win competitions.
Key activites: Examples of machine learning competitions can be found on platforms such as Kaggle, DrivenData, and Zindi.
Preferred background: Direct experience with machine learning competitions is not required. However, a strong understanding of machine learning fundamentals and proficiency in Python programming are essential. Familiarity with Pandas and scikit-learn is expected. Knowledge of PyTorch and deep learning is a plus but not mandatory.
Implementations Engineer
Time: 40h / week (all in office)
Main responsibilities: Developing and implementing applications that support Epoch’s goals, primarily focusing on models developed by the Engineering teams.
Key activites: The Malaria app, created in response to Epoch V winning the Lacuna Malaria competition.
Preferred background: Experience in developing web applications, both frontend and backend. Proficiency in frameworks such as React, Django, or NodeJS is ideal, though the specific technology is flexible, what matters most is delivering a well-functioning application. You’ll have the freedom to choose the best tools for the job!
AI Engineer - Part Time
NOTE: We prioritize full-time applicants significantly over part-time applicants. Please take this into consideration when applying.
Time: 24h+ / week (all in office)
Main responsibilities: Collaborating within Epoch’s competition team to develop the best possible machine learning models and win competitions.
