Management Positions:
Team Manager
Time: 40h / week (in-office)
Main responsibility: Leading and guiding the team with a strategic focus, supporting team members in their own development trajectory to achieve their and Epoch’s goals.
Examples: Fostering collaboration and engagement within the team, being the image of Epoch to the outside world, overseeing the output of Epoch.
Preferred background: Experience with working in teams/committees and having a strong social radar. Strong communication and problem-solving skills are essential.
Project Manager
Time: 40h / week (in office)
Main responsibility: Ensure smooth workflow and adherence to planning for the team. As a project manager you are, together with the rest of the management, responsible for the efficiency and effectiveness of the team. Furthermore, you will also be responsible for the financial management of the team.
Examples: Maintaining the efficiency and effectiveness of the team, preventing task overlap and meeting deadlines, preventing task overlap and meeting deadlines.
Preferred background: Structured mindset and some experience in project management. You should be adept at communicating with a diverse range of individuals. This requires a strong social radar and the ability to adapt your communication style effectively.
Chief Engineer
Time: 40h / week (in-office)
Main responsibility: As Chief Engineer, you will be a part of the management of Epoch, functioning as the head of the engineering department, and being responsible for its quality.
Examples: Examples of ML competitions can be found on Kaggle, DrivenData and Zindi. For these competitions, you will consult with your team and try to come up with the best approach. This includes reading research papers, writing code to implement models, setting up sweeps to get the best possible parameters, etc.
Preferred background: Previous experience competing in ML competitions is a plus. You need to have a good grasp of the field of Machine learning and proficiency programming Python as well as experience using pandas, SKlearn & Pytorch.
As you will be leading a team of people, soft skills are equally important. This means you are able to create a collaborative environment, where all ideas are valued and people are held accountable to their responsibilities. You are open to new ideas, but know when to pursue something and when not.
Finally, you will need to have good communication and leadership skills and both verbal and written proficiency in the English language.
Operations Positions:
Please note that we prioritize full-time applicants significantly over part-time applicants. We strongly encourage candidates to apply for full-time roles to increase their likelihood of selection.
Partner Coordinator
Time: 40h / week or 24h+ / week (in office)
Main responsibility: Acquiring resources and maintaining relationships with Epoch partners.
Examples: You are responsible for getting the necessary resources so the team can excel in their work. You will get into contact with sponsors and partners that can help Epoch in some way, you will set up meetings and give presentations on why Epoch is relevant for them. Besides starting connections you are also responsible for negotiating and maintaining relationships. At events you are the main point of contact.
Preferred background: You communication skills need to be on point, you are convincing, clear and thoughtful in conversations both in english and dutch. This position also requires you to be flexible in your time as companies are often not readily available. Sales experience is a plus.
Events Coordinator
Time: 40h / week or 24h+ / week (in office)
Main responsibility: Organising and hosting events that represent Epoch to the public.
Examples: Epoch organises a range of events throughout the year such as hackathons (500+ participants), presentations, talks, company visits, etc. You are responsible for this organisation, you will maintain contact with the event’s location and other parties involved. In this position you have a lot of freedom to organise whatever you find interesting and adds to the value of Epoch.
Preferred background: You do not need much past experiences to apply for this position. It helps if you have a structured and clear way of working and have some experience in organising events or projects.
Columnist
Time: 16h+ / week (in office)
Main responsibility: Writing longer-form texts in the name of Epoch, you will convey to the world what Epoch stands for. You will also assist the research people with their tasks and give your perspective on those matters.
Examples: Opinion pieces, small research pieces relevant to competition or to Epoch. These topics could also be on AI safety, data usage or environmental challenges. Together with the PR coordinator you will try to get these pieces into well known national papers, platforms or magazines..
Preferred background: Some experience writing (opinion) texts, preferably with a technical or AI focus.
Public Relations Coordinator
Time: 40h / week or 24h+ / week (in office)
Main responsibility: Managing external communication through our social media platforms. You will also be the main point of contact for press and other parties interested in the Epoch story.
Examples: You decide how to attract a bigger audience to Epoch. You speak to the press in for example radio interviews or paper pieces. Throughout the year you will get media training to get the storytelling skills you need.
Preferred background: You should possess strong communication skills, enabling you to navigate challenging conversations strategically. Additionally, you have a clear understanding of what makes a compelling social media presence and can apply this knowledge effectively to Epoch. Proficiency in writing (Dutch and English) is preferred.
Visual Designer
Time: 40h / week or 24h+ / week (in office)

AI Engineer - Full Time
Time: 40h / week (all in office)
Main responsibility: Working in a competition team within Epoch. This means you will be collaborating with your colleagues to make the best possible model in order to win the competition!

Preferred background: You do not need direct experience with ML competitions, but we do require you to have knowledge of Machine learning basics and proficiency to program in Python. Also, you should have some affinity using Pandas and SKlearn. Knowing Pytorch & Deep Learning is a plus, however it is not needed.
Implementations Engineer
Time: 40h / week (all in office)
Main responsibility: Implementing applications that support the goals of Epoch. Mainly focussing on models the Engineering teams developed.
Examples: The Malaria app, developed in response to Epoch V winning the Lacuna Malaria competition.
Preferred background: Experience developing (web) applications (frontend + backend). This can be React/Django/NodeJS, it doesn't really matter as long as the app works well :). You will get the freedom to choose what you think works best!
AI Engineer - Part Time

Time: 24h+ / week (all in office)
Main responsibility: Working in a competition team within Epoch. This means you will be collaborating with your colleagues to make the best possible model in order to win the competition!
